Live cameras

Live broadcast from the Patagonian seabird colonies and from the sea where whales come to feed; a monitoring project with streaming unprecedented in Argentina.

High-definition video cameras to remotely monitor, without human disturbance, the breeding seasons of the seabirds on the islands of Parque Provincial Patagonia Azul, Chubut.

8cameras
One of them looks out to sea, where whales return every year to feed.
5islands
Tova, Tovita, Gran Robredo, Larga and Vernaci.
7species
Magellanic penguin, imperial cormorant, southern giant petrel, Olrog's gull and three species of terns.

The use of this technology is unprecedented in Argentina and in much of the world. It allows the monitoring of breeding populations in hard-to-access sites, such as these islands, and provides a unique opportunity to give public access to knowledge of the species.

The work is carried out with the collaboration of Fundación Rewilding Argentina, Ornis Itálica and the Government of the province of Chubut. The cameras stream live through explore.org.

Imperial cormorant colony

Tovita Island

Look at the volcano-shaped nests that imperial cormorants build from seaweed and guano: that's where they usually lay three eggs. To feed, they dive as deep as 60 meters.
